If your kid has been getting more allergies than usual, or suffering from a cough that has been persisting for weeks, perhaps the culprit can be found in his bedroom. First, check if his bedroom is well-ventilated. Are his windows always closed? Do certain odours seem to linger? When air does not move freely, dust and other allergens can stay trapped in a room. Make it a point to open his windows every morning to let the fresh air in. Vacuuming his bedroom at least once a week can also get rid of dust and animal hair (if you have pets). Get rid of old carpets or dusty curtains and have them washed regularly. When cleaning his room, avoid using products that contain harsh ingredients. Concoct your own natural cleaner with water, a few teaspoons of lemon juice or baking soda, and a dollop of baby shampoo.
Finally, check your kid’s toys. Some of them, especially those made of plastic, might contain harmful chemicals. Replace them with “natural” toys such as wooden puppets or teddy bears made with natural fibres.
